I won’t be deleting this one, but I won’t be checking it anymore. I’ve had this one for almost three years. It’s cluttered with back logs of reblogs and it feels more like the nonsensical projection of a ADD riddled subconscious that spends too much time starring into the depths of the internet. It doesn’t feel very representative of me at all.

my old ska punk band The Reese Witherspoon Disaster played a benefit show for Invisible Children at least 5 years ago. It was set up through a church in our hometown, which asked us to play. We watched a little film about children in Uganda being abducted from their homes and being forced into sexual servitude or armed combat. It was upsetting. We played some songs, spoke unintelligibly about fascism, power dynamics, and geopolitics, played some more songs, and then we were done. Then one of the film makers talked to us about her first hand experience with children in these war torn towns. The whole ordeal widened my gaze and gave me some much needed perspective. These are fears children suffer with every day in Uganda, fears that I will never understand, and my government is busy bombing countries for strategic advantage in some drawn out chess game. No one can remember which pieces are even theirs anymore. Every calculated move apparently in the name of some assured greater good. All while children in Africa are still being subjected to these horrors. And the US keeps occupying Iraq and Afghanistan.

Invisible Children is the organization behind Kony 2012. They’ve been active for years and people have been coming together to talk about this for a long long time. Why, like a switch going off, is it now gaining unprecedented recognition?

Fuck.

They, as in the invisible evil. The conspiring Illuminati. The powers that be. They manufacturer demand. They manufacture social conscious. They orchestrate and chaperone our protests. They’re going to start “developing” Africa next.

Why the fuck doesn’t anyone care about anything until they’re told to?

I don’t get drunk that often, but when I do, I never get drunk enough to text or bother people I wouldn’t normally talk to. I also always go back and fix my grammatical and spelling errors, of which there are many I assure you, but you’ll never get to see them! See. I’m drunk enough for the actual content of my writing to be nonsense, but brilliantly formatted. Even when I get black out drunk, which I’ve only kind of done once, I am confoundedly clear with my written expression. confoundedly! I am confounded!

So what’s the deal? When y’all let your inhibitions dissolve into bubbly light bear foam dripping unbecomingly from your lips it’s not really a testament to how drunk you are is it? You’re just letting the alcohol take hold of your clumsy thumbs to tell the world silly incomprehensible gibberish. For me, being sober is like being drunk, and being drunk is like getting punched really hard in the head, and getting punched really hard in the head is like watching the X-Men: The Animated Series from the 90’s, because X-Men marathons always leave me in a daze, and when I come to my pants are nowhere to be found, and I feel a little sick, and I’ve squandered my ambition for another day, and I’ve alienated at least one loved one, and I just want cuddle and go live in the past.

This bleak, hideous present is going nowhere.

I keep seeing this, and while I guess I agree that yeah, people like that are probably not good partners, this rubs me the wrong way. Seems like some dude taking it upon himself to explain to women how they’re fucking up? I found myself thinking a bunch about this while making dinner.*

I dunno, maybe I’m off base and this guy is wonderful. But I get the same general vibe from this as I do the doofus with the “women you’re all beautiful don’t wear so much make up” or whatever sign.

this dude is a really good/popular young adult author and i personally think it’s kind of great because it’s targeted at pre-/teenage ladies who ask him sincere questions such as “should i act dumb so my boyfriend likes me better?” and i like that he gets angry about it. would i like it better if it came from a lady? duh

Good to know. I know nothing of this/him aside from these 6 images. So I didn’t know if this was just an unprovoked thing or what.

This right here is why I’m kind of done with Tumblr: emotionally. I still post a fair amount, as you might notice. But the ease at which peoples comments are misconstrued feels suffocating. On the internet, people read into things the way they want to, and though thinking critically about privilege, gender, race, class, all these sorts of things is definitely rad, and to be celebrated, I am just really really really sick of having those conversations online. No one is humanized through a screen name, internet handle, or even facebook account, and it’s actually incredibly difficult to fully see where people are coming from through emotionless pictures, gifs, and walls of text.

I’m not saying there’s not a place for it, I’m simply saying I’m burnt out and don’t wanna do it anymore.
